New leaks of the Xperia Z Ultra hints that the device will be waterproof and possibly include a next generation IGZO display.

The leaks, which come by the way of Know Your Mobile, were found on ePrice, a Chinese online retailer that offers smartphones and other handy gadgets for sale. According to the site, the Xperia Z Ultra is IP55 and IP58 certified, confirming that the device will be waterproof like the Xperia Z, the company’s current best-selling flagship Android device. A picture of what’s believed to be the device on an invitation sent out to users this past week had indicated that the device sported a headphone jack that didn’t have a waterproof cover, calling the possibility of the device being waterproof into question.

ePrice’s site also shows that the device will feature 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage with the option to add more using a built-in microSD card slot. What’s more interesting here is that 6.4 inch Trilluminos display. Reportedly, it will feature Sony’s X Reality display engine and have a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The specifications page also showcased an image of the device taken after someone had drawn a small heart on the device. Inside that picture, there’s a pencil.

If that pencil was used to draw the heart it could signal that the Xperia Z Ultra will use the IGZO display technology that was showcased at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, or something comparable. When we tried the technology we found it to hugely more accurate than other touchscreen technology. It also allows things like pens and pencils to be used with the device, in case the user doesn’t prefer or doesn’t have access to a stylus.

Other specifications indicated by the page include support for HDR photo taking with an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera and a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera. The device will also include Near Field communications support, Wi-Fi wireless internet connectivity and a huge 3,00mAh battery to power that large screen.

If the device is the one pictured in the Sony Mobile invitation that was sent out earlier this week, Sony will detail the device in early July.
