5 million HTC One devices sold to date, in a month, according to reports, which is a decent number considering all of the difficulties in production and distribution (and the phone is still not available in every region where it should be). That’s half of the number of Galaxy S 4 units Samsung managed to sell through its global channels, but the South Korean company did a better job at both producing volumes and making it available worldwide.
This information, unlike Samsung’s, is not coming via a press release, but The Wall Street Journal is quoting an executive — probably still working at HTC — who unveiled the number. He also added that ”orders are pretty good so far and are still more than what we can supply. This is partly due to the shortage of components. When the issue is resolved next month, we will have a better idea if it’s doing really well or not”.
Whether the number is real or not is yet unknown, and, even if it is, whether it will represent the success — or survival — of the company with Peter Chou at its helms is still a question yet to be answered. It is also possible that the report is claiming 5 million devices sold to partners, but we’ll revert as soon as we get official wording from HTC.
